Abstract

This paper analyses a sample of 190 Spanish tourist companies that, together, have undertaken 610 international expansion operations and, based on the information they provide, answers the following questions: 1) what entry modes entry do Spanish tourist companies use to establish themselves abroad?; 2) do companies that operate in different subsectors of the tourism industry use different entry modes?; and, most particularly, 3) what entry modes are most frequently chosen when companies seek to establish themselves at destinations located in developed or developing countries, and do they differ?
