Abstract

This work analyzes how the family climate affects the establishment of non-financial or socio-emotional goals in family businesses, and suggests that this influence is mediated by the degree of family identification with the company. More specifically, we propose that positive family dynamics generate identification of the family with its company. In turn, identification leads the company to adopt non-financial goals. These hypotheses are confirmed by the data obtained from 374 members of senior management teams in 173 Spanish unlisted family companies.
