This article examines the structural criteria of the proem of Dionysius’ Roman Antiquities, with special attention to their relation with the author’s ideas about the general proem of Thucydides. It also pays attention to the phrase, in order to define the stylistic rules of the proem and its place in the literary polemic of Dionysius’ time.
