Abstract

This review is based on the handbook "The foreign language and its teaching in secondary education", devoted to foreign language teaching for compulsory secondary education. It is aimed primarily at teachers, but also at students, and at the stage of teaching which it proposes. These students, aged between 12 and 16, find themselves in the teaching and learning process of the current Spanish education system, which is based on the subjects set out in the curriculum and which, in general, takes little account of the needs of pupils in terms of the integral development of their personality. Therefore, the aim of this manual, after showing an overview of the emotional and social reality of pupils in the first part, is to offer suggestions, didactic projects and learning activities for interdisciplinary and cross-curricular classes based on methodologies that emphasise the pupils' own experience.
